-who were the main characters in the development of the atom
John Dalton, J.J. Thomson, Ernst Rutherford.- Why were they vital to the development of the atom
It is because of them that we know what an atom is and how it is made up

- what made them different if anything.
Some scientists made theories and never actually tried to prove them while other scientists experimented their theories.

- Think about your lessons in history and discuss how the time period that they lived in determined the outcome of their discovery/ or how it influenced those individuals to be the names that we know today (aka did it matter where they grew up or if they had money?)
Democritus is probably the only one of these scientist who had problems proving his theory because of the primitive technology in the ancient Greek era. The other scientists had more advanced technology and their discoveries helped the others that did research down the road.

- Why do we consider the atomic theory still a theory? What are the new developments- would love for you to share new sources here about what you find
Atomic theory is only a theory because parts of it have been proven false. Dalton claimed that atoms could not be split into smaller structures, but they are composed of protons, electrons, and neutrons.

- Why does it matter that we understand the structure of the atom
If we understand the structure of the atom we can determine how everything in the universe is constructed and how it interacts with each other.

ReplyDeleteThis is a really good blog but what are the new developments to the atomic theory?
:)

ReplyDeleteIt would be really convenient if you could translate this into a simpler form of english so younger children and people of less intelligence would be able to understand it more clearly. Also, you didn't mention any new developments about dalton's theory.
